The American Security Council, an organization that supports development of the MX missile, the Stealth bomber and the "Star Wars" missile defense system, has chosen Rep. Duncan Hunter , R-Coronado, as its new president.
Hunter, a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the second-ranking member of its seapower subcommittee, is the first member of Congress to serve as president of the 310,000-member organization. John M. Fisher, the organization's chairman and chief executive officer, praised Hunter for supporting the Reagan administration's campaign to modernize strategic forces.
Hunter has scored 100 percent on the council's so-called National Security Index, a rating system that evaluates members of Congress according to how they vote on several key defense issues.
