BIOGRAPHY OF MAHATMA GANDHI :  Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 in Porbandar, India. He became one of the most respected spiritual and political leaders of the 1900's. GandhiJI helped free the Indian people from British rule through nonviolent resistance, and is honored by Indians as the father of the Indian Nation.

The Indian people called Gandhiji  'Mahatma', meaning Great Soul.

CA: 2-year prison term for funneling funds

A Pleasant Hill man convicted of funneling foreign contributions to the Democratic Party was sentenced to two years in prison Friday on separate charges of structuring monetary transactions to avoid detection.

Yogesh Gandhi, 56 -- who says he is a descendant of the late Indian leader Mohandas Gandhi -- was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Martin Jenkins on four counts of structuring transactions.

Ramchandra Gandhi found dead in IIC

New Delhi: Dr Ramchandra Gandhi, a grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and renowned philosopher and writer, was found dead at the India International Centre, Delhi, on Wednesday.

His body was found in Room No 15 of the IIC. The cause of death was reportedly natural. Ramchandra was 70 years old.

"As there was no response despite several calls, the room was broken open and he was found lying on the ground. Perhaps he died of a cardiac arrest," IIC secretary Venugopal said.

Tidbit:  Ramchandra Gandhi used to be a professor at Princeton University New Jersey.
