Who Rules America?

Who Rules America?

What do you suppose it is like to be elected president of the United States only to find that your power is restricted to the service of powerful interest groups?

A president who does a good job for the ruling interest groups is paid off with remunerative corporate directorships, outrageous speaking fees, and a lucrative book contract.  If he is young when he assumes office, like Bill Clinton and Obama, it means a long life of luxurious leisure. Fighting the special interests doesn’t pay and doesn’t succeed.

On April 30 the primacy of special over public interests was demonstrated yet again.  The Democrats’ bill to prevent 1.7 million mortgage foreclosures and, thus, preserve $300 billion in home equity by permitting homeowners to renegotiate their mortgages, was defeated in the Senate, despite the 60-vote majority of the Democrats.  The bankst ers were able to defeat the bill 51 to 45.

These are the same financial gangsters whose unbridled greed and utter irresponsibility have wiped out half of Americans’ retirement savings, sent the economy into a deep hole, and threatened the US dollar’s reserve currency role.  It is difficult to imagine an interest group with a more damaged reputation.  Yet, a majority of “the people’s representatives” voted as the discredited banksters instructed.

What is this enormous waste of resources that America does not have accomplishing—besides enriching the American munitions industry?
China and to some extent India are the rising powers in the world.  Russia, the largest country on earth, is armed with a nuclear arsenal as terrifying as the American one.  The US dollar’s role as reserve currency, the most important source of American power, is undermined by the budget deficits that result from the munitions corporations’ wars and the bankster bailouts.

Why is the US making itself impotent fighting wars that have nothing whatsoever to do with is security, wars that are, in fact, threatening its security
The answer is that the military/security lobby, the financial gangsters, and AIPAC rule.  The American people be damned.

I assume that your comment "I was taken back several weeks ago, when I obviously walked into a very hateful person's world." is referring to the time when Lisa Ostella (who I assume is the owner and administrator of this blog) decided to open it up to all commentators instead of banning any commenter who even mildly disagreed with Orly. Well if you liked the way things were run before then Orly is carrying on the proud tradition of censorship at her new blog that I will not link.

I disagree with almost everything that I think Lisa Ostella stands for but I will give her credit for opening the blog to uncensored comments and state the following:

    1. If you cannot tolerate reading opinions that differ from yours, Contrary Mary, you should disconnect from the Internet or only visit blogs that are rigidly moderated to exclude opinions that you consider contrary..

    2. Lisa Ostella has chosen to use a fair portion of this blog to defend herself from some serious charges that Orly made on her own blog. I cannot fault the moderator for using a blog for which she is currently paying the bills for to defend herself.

    3. As I said I couldn't disagree more politically with Lisa O. but I seriously doubt that she has done anything close to what Orly has accused her of doing. I have seen Orly do anything on her blog but babble incoherently and make all sorts of unsupported accusations of all sorts of people. Again if you want to go pst there and support a complete idiot (IMO) then you could certainly do that.

    4. Lisa deserves credit for keeping this blog free and open since Orly left. Free form commenting isn't everyone's cup of tea but there are certainly have plenty of choices to read and post on the Internet be you and Obama supporter or hater.
